The 14th Annual Sheep Shearing Day at Thistle Cove Farm takes place 4 April 2009.This working day on a sheep and horse farm is open to the public and begins around 9 a.m. when Clinton Bell, Master Shearer, arrives to shear my small, rare and primitive Shetland sheep and Merino, Romney and crossbred sheep. He's usually finished shearing around 1:00 p.m. but the day goes until 5:00 p.m.
Lost Arts Guild members demonstrate and sell traditional Appalachian crafts such as hand and farm spun yarn, woven rag rugs, baskets, brooms, iron courtn' candles, mountain dulcimers, wooden benches, decorated gourds, knitted/crochet/felted goods and more. Everything is hand crafted by folks living in the Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia.Cove Community folks will sell hot food and drink to benefit educational programs throughout the year.
